CMS 4804: Required Games
We will be playing a variety of open-source and free-to-play games, e.g. Passage.
In addition, you are required to play at least 5 hours of each of the following games, capture a 15-minute video sequence of your play from each, and upload these video clips to YouTube.
Since the first two games are available only on Sony PlayStation, I have included alternative titles for students without access to that platform. All students will be responsible for all materials assigned and presented in class. The links below point to Wikipedia.
Require/Preferred | Alternative |
---|---|
The Last of Us 1 (Naughty Dog) | A Plague Tale: Innocence (Focus) |
Spider-Man: Mile Morales (Insomniac) | Batman: Arkham Knight (Rock Steady) |
Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar) | N/A |
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar) | N/A |
Game of your choice | N/A |
Note that the videos must be captures of your play. Submitting footage taken from other sources will be considered academic misconduct.
YouTube
If you don’t already have a YouTube account, you will need to create one for this class. You do not have to use your real name for the account, and you can set the videos to “Unlisted.”
(If designated “Unlisted,” your video may be accessed only by users who have the direct link to it. The video will not appear in your channel or in search results.)
Game of Your Choice
The game of your choice can be any electronic game in any genre. The game does not not have to emphasize narrative. You will use this game for the Player Experience essay assignment.
Other Required Games
Your footage from the other four games will be used for the exams and for the Game Analysis project.
Other Games of Interest
You are not required to play the games listed below, but they will be referenced frequently in class. Links point to Wikipedia.
- The Last of Us Part II (Naughty Dog)
- Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (Insomniac)
- Final Fantasy XV (Ubisoft)
